Instead of posting a "Best of 2007" list and wasting your and, what is infinitely more important, my time, I've decided to present a taste of what 2008 has in store for us. This year has blessed us with quite a few great releases right from the get-go. So, get started on your best of lists early and maybe we won't end up with any of this 'Person Pitch' bullshit this year.

Great stoner/psychedelic rock. Found here are their first and latest full-length albums. Get (s)toked for the release of Old Growth which should be coming out on Matador Records in January 2008. If you're into this kind of music or realize that you like these albums (or most of the others that I post, for that matter) you should check out this short documentary - Such Hawks, Such Hounds. It features a ton of great bands that are in the same vein as Dead Meadow.

So, I have been sitting here trying to come up with some ingeniously cleaver way to tie these three records together and make this post into a cohesive piece. After typing and deleting several different ideas (most of which revolving around The Beta Band) I realized that all of these bands are far too simple to be explained and that's exactly what I enjoy so much about them. Minimalistic simplicity. Therefore, I've decided to let these records and these videos and their music do all the talking.

I had initially planned on making an entry full of all the supporting acts on the Fall 07 tour circuit that are "shredding the gnar." However, most of the records that I would have used for that were a part of the duo post. Instead, I'm going to dedicate this entire post to the Bowerbirds. If you haven't heard about them yet, you will soon. They are the band that all of the more popular singer/song-writer bands want to take on tour with them. Having just finished up a week long trek with John Vanderslice, they are currently on an epic journey through the East coast with The Mountain Goats. Simply put, they are kicking major arce!

This next post is dedicated to all of the dyadic acts that are giving me ragging boners, as of late. The first of which is a pair of individuals that holds a particularly sweet spot in my heart and pants - Big Business. These rad dudes from way back when can currently be seen on tour, in support and as a part of the mother-fucking Melvins!

Big Business - Here Come the Waterworks (Hydra Head; 2007)

Secondly, we have a band who recently had the privilege of opening up for Rwake on a few Western dates. Like most bands of their genre, their sound is generated by a wall of assorted guitar cabinets/heads and an over sized drum kit (think Nat Damm of Akimbo). They crush!

Black Cobra - Bestial (At A Loss; 2006)

Next we have Om, a band that features Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius, one half of the legendary stoner metal band, Sleep. I had the pleasure of seeing these two gents last night when they opened up for Pinback and they folkin' killed. This is their latest effort and it comes out October 2nd on Southern Lord. I haven't gotten the time to listen to the entire record, but they played some songs off of it in their set and it is sure to annoy all of your friends.

Last but not least, we have The White Stripes with, what I think is their greatest record to date. Recorded in just two weeks, Elephant features Jack White at his pinnacle of song-writing. If you haven't already, please do yourself a favor and listen to "You've Got Her in Your Pocket," "The Air Near My Fingers," and "Ball & Biscuit." L8R RALPH N8R!
